4) Bergisel Ski Jump, Innsbruck, Austria
A combination of sports history and modern design is set against the backdrop of the mountain landscape at Bergisel Ski Jump.
Zaha Hadid designed the stylistic structure in 2001 as a new addition to the stadium, with its white pillar tower base topped with gleaming glass providing panoramic views.
The stadium has a long history as a skiing venue beginning in the 1920s. It served as a venue for the 1976 Winter Olympic Games, celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Four Hills Tour in 2002, hosted the European Soccer Championship in 2008, and the 1st youth Olympic Games in 2012.
The facility remains busy from June through October with competitions, training for athletics from around the world, and dry slope jumping. Visitors can access the viewing platform from the tower elevator, ride the funicular, or for athletic visitors, walk the 455 steps to the tower for views that will leave you speechless and breathless.
You can also visit the Café im Turm at the top of the tower platform that features large glass windows for viewing while enjoying a delicious meal.
