Everyone loves to travel, but no one loves to pack and carry the luggage. It’s as simple as that.
On the other hand, very few people are comfortable with hitting the road without any luggage, so it’s actually pretty hard to find that sweet spot when it comes to packing for your favorite trip.
In order to help every globetrotter out there, we decided to make a list of crucial tips and hacks that will help you travel light.
1. Opt For A Small Suitcase Or Backpack
This is one of the most important steps and it should definitely be your first because if you choose a small suitcase, you simply won’t have an opportunity to pack heavy.
Of course, everyone has different needs and requirements, but for a three-week long trip, you’ll need just one 25L backpack. Trust us, it’s doable.
2. Pack ONLY Two Pairs Of Shoes
We can’t stress enough how important this is if you really want to travel light. Shoes take up a lot of space and are usually heavy, so if you bring more than two pairs, well, one suitcase won’t ever be enough.
Pack one pair of light footwear in your backpack and wear a pair of bulky shoes or boots while you’re traveling. That way you’ll save up some extra space in your suitcase.
3. Don’t Pack A Lot Of Toiletries
Personal hygiene is extremely important, of course, but if you’re going to stay in various hotels during your vacation, you don’t have to pack a lot of toiletries.
You only need to bring:
- A few towels
- Your toothbrush
Everything else will be provided by the hotel. Even the towels (but hey – don’t forget to bring a towel!).
4. Use Packing Cubes
A lot of people think that packing cubes are pointless because “it all goes into the backpack anyway”. Well yes, it all goes into the backpack, but packing cubes also provide you with:
- More storage space
- Better organization
- They prevent you from over-packing
5. Density Is The Key
We know that folding and neatly rolling your clothes can be somewhat annoying and boring, but trusts us, this tactic will also save you A LOT of precious space in your backpack.
6. 3 Is The Magic Number
Pack your cloths in 3s:
- 3 shirts
- 3 pairs of pants
- 3 pairs of socks
The principle is simple – You can wear one, wash one, and dry one at the same time, and easily repeat the process whenever you need to wash something.
7. Don’t Pack A Lot Of Electronics
Many people tend to pack their laptops and tablets, but that is a trouble you don’t really need on your trip. Bringing those items with you means that you have to bring a charger for every single one of them and all of that takes up a lot of space. You can always find an Internet café!
