If you’ve decided to go backpacking through South America, you are in for a unique experience. However, some tips on how to smartly travel across this amazing continent might come in handy. Buckle up and enjoy the ride.

South America is Huge

Make sure you understand how big South America actually is. This continent is not the sort of place you will manage to do your Tiki Tour of in 10 days.

If you want to see all of it and experience all the magic, plan ahead and be sure you have as much time as possible at your disposal.

If you do, on the other hand, have only 10 days or up to a fortnight, make sure you narrow down what is most important to you and work around that.

Most tourists, if they have a few weeks for this journey, they decide to go and see Argentina, Chile and Brazil. One cannot go wrong with these 3 amazing countries.

Flexible Schedule

You would want to plan out your overall itinerary and make it as flexible as possible. Make a triage of the places and events you want to check out, so if something more interesting crops up in the meantime, you can swap it for something that you perhaps weren’t that excited to see.

See what festivals are going on while you are over there and try to work them in your schedule. For example, if your trip is in February or March, you will definitely want to check out the Carnival in Rio De Janeiro, as well as the one in Oruro, Bolivia.
