Canada is best known not only for the friendliness of its residents and the cold temperatures, but also for its amazing mountain sports capabilities. If there was ever a destination you should go to for hiking and skiing, it’s Canada.

Now, imagine these qualities combined with a metropolitan status of a city which is home to many relaxing sites and activities designed for budget travelers. The result: Calgary.

Find The Right Time

Although Calgary is a pretty diverse city with many options that will carter both to small and big budgets, if you want to travel there, you’ll have to make sure you hit it at the right time.

There are many things which Calgary is host to throughout the year.

If you arrive here during some of the major events, the hostel rooms will cost you around 45 CAD, while a hotel room can go up to 100-120 CAD.

On the other hand, if you get there out of season, these prices are around 30 and 80 CAD, respectively.

However, eating in Calgary always comes at the same price, no matter which event is on the current menu. There are cheap pub meals for around 20 CAD, and you can also find high-end restaurants that charge 40 CAD for a meal with drinks. A week’s worth of groceries will cost you about 75 CAD.

So Many Things, So Little Time

As we’ve said before, Calgary, Canada is a place where you’ll almost certainly be a part of a major event. This includes the annual Stampede, where cowboys from all over the country – and the world – gather at the same spot.

However, there are many places where you can relax and take it easy, too. From the Prince’s Island Park to the Fish Creek Provincial Park, to Calgary’s prehistoric zoo and botanical garden, you’re bound to find a spot that will place you away from all that’s happening throughout the year.

Finally, you should definitely check out the northwest part of the city. In the summer, Kensington hosts a Sun and Salsa Festival, while it’s also a place where you can regularly find many clubs and parties.
