Getting hurt or sick during your vacation in a foreign country is never fun, but it happens and you need to be prepared.
This is why you need to care of a few minor precautions so you will save time and money, and you can feel you are always on the safe side.
In this column we will be giving you the tips on how to handle health care plan when travelling abroad.
Locating Doctors & Clinics While Traveling Abroad
As Independent Traveler reports, the U.S. State Department provides a list of doctors and hospitals abroad, while it is also useful to know that the nearest embassy or consulate in your destination should have recommendations as well.
On the other hand, you can always check your guidebook as many good ones tend to include hospital, clinic or doctor recommendations.
If you are staying at a fancy hotel, you can ask the hotel concierge for more information on available physicians and which doctors make house calls to your hotel, should you prefer that kind of treatment.
If travelling is your true passion and you go abroad rather frequently, you may consider joining the International Association for Medical Assistance to Travelers (IAMAT). Their membership is free of charge, while you will have access to a database of English-speaking doctors and clinics around the world. Pretty neat.
