Readers of Travel + Leisure magazine have voted Kyoto, Japan the best city to visit in 2015.
This is the second year in a row that the Japanese gem took the No. 1 spot, this time beating Charleston, South Carolina.
Kyoto is a peaceful place with more than 1,000 Buddhist temples scattered around the city, and was also the imperial capital of the country for more than 1,000 years.
Kyoto features Zen gardens, ryokan inns and an area of the city dedicated to geishas, which originated from Kyoto.
The voters left out some of the more obvious choices for the top spot, such as New York, Paris and London, which could be falling out of favor with globe trotters as they further explore the less sought-after areas of the world.
In other words, if you are planning a trip of a lifetime to a more secluded spot at the other end of the world, Kyoto is definitely the place for you.
