Once you decide to go on a trip, you’ll have many things to sort out. From room reservations to choosing which shirt to bring with you, you’re sure to have your hands full.

Luggage is surely one of the most important factors of traveling, but you won’t carry it outside your room. If you choose the wrong luggage, you’ll live – but if your backpack doesn’t serve its purpose, it’s not only virtually useless, but it can become a burden.

Different types of journeys require different gear and preparation. In that name, here are a couple of general things you should look for when choosing the right backpack.

Simplicity Meets Functionality

There is but one rule when it comes to choosing a backpack – keep things simple, but make sure they work for you.

This basically means you don’t want your backpack to have too many compartments, gizmos, and zippers, but you’ll also need it to be sturdy and endurable in any given situation.

That being said, there are some things every backpack must be equipped with.

These include lockable zippers, a hip belt, water-resistant material, and a padded back. Once a backpack has met these criteria, the rest of its functions don’t really matter that much.

From Small To Big

The second thing you should look out for is your backpack’s size. While there is no perfect size for a travel backpack, there is something you should remember while deciding between a small and a big one.

Your backpack will work best if it’s proportional to your body. If you’re a strapping young lad who plans on carrying 60 lbs of gear for a camping trip, then a big backpack is for you.

On the other hand, if you’re picking a backpack for your kid, who’s only going to carry a water bottle and his favorite toy in it – you get the picture.

Finally, there isn’t much to say when it comes to prices of backpacks. A quality backpack with a bunch of compartments and reinforced straps and padding is bound to cost a lot, but we can guarantee it’s going to be worth the money.
