Whether you’re a self-proclaimed “friend of the world” who likes to go travel everywhere imaginable and spontaneously live a bunch of lives in one lifetime, or you’re more of the planning-crazed elegant touristy type, there are a couple of things you should know and abide by.
It doesn’t matter where you’re going, or how long you’re staying – these essential travelling tips will be of value to everyone.
Let Yourself Splurge
This doesn’t mean you should spend your whole life’s savings on staying in grandiose hotels for weeks. It actually means just the opposite – plan a budget trip, so you can save money on some stuff you don’t actually need and then spend it on even more travelling!
You can travel many places without spending more than $30 a day. Also, with the money you save while traveling the smart, budget-friendly day, you can treat yourself to a nicer hotel for a few days, partying like nobody’s business, and eating at a fancy restaurant.
When you go out exploring the city or town you’re in, go by foot and just walk without any particular destination.
By seeing the place on foot you can actually experience the everyday lives of the locals, and just breathe in the place fully.
If you’re scared about the dangerous neighborhoods, ask the locals about them. They will probably warn you.
Don’t forget to write down the name of your hotel/motel, so you can catch a taxi back if you need to.
Eat The Food
Don’t limit yourself to eating only familiar ingredients, but try out everything that the locals usually eat and even some exquisite dishes connected to that place. Naturally you’re scared of food-related sicknesses, but the chances of that happening are very slim.
Taste a bit of everything, ask for recommendations, and eat food from street vendors. Who knows – you very well might find your next favorite dish in the whole world, or get inspired to change your own culinary artistry a bit.
